Consumption vs Creation
In the new year I feel the need to focus on creating things. Too often I am in a consumption mode, only ingesting information from the internet and using what other people have created. It's so easy too. With social media, technology, and readily available goods and services - it's extremely easy to get things. One-click orders, same-day deliveries. You want it - you get it. Creative process, on the other hand, is a lot harder (duh!). First, you need to get yourself seated. You need to gather your scattered attention and try to wrestle with your brain to focus on the task at hand. This requires consious effort, taking the time out of your day, and taking the energy that is not always there.
The upside is huge though. I sometimes forget that with no effort - there's no growth. "No pain - no gain" and all that. Consuming readily available information, goods, and services will not make you a better person, a better human. Only by giving something to the world can you really grow and learn. Be it something related to your career, your relationships, or your hobbies - by trying to switch from consuming to giving something back you can have outsized results. Best way to progress your career is by taking responsibility. Best way to learn a new fun thing is by doing it. Best way to keep in touch with old friends is by picking up the phone and giving them a call.
This post itself is me trying to switch the mindset and trying to learn new thing (blogging) by actually doing it, as opposed to just reading about it on the Internets. And I can already tell it's gonna be a lot of fun.
This post is part of the #100days project, where I try to write a post a day. Today is #day2
