Weather is a great conversation topic. You mostly talk about it when you don’t know what else to chat about. It’s a good opener and you can never go wrong with a little complaining about the current state of affairs in the meteorological department.

Which brings me to today’s gloomy day. It rained non stop for the past few days but at some point during the night the nature suddenly remembered that it was winter season in Canada and decided to drop the temperature to a few degrees below zero. Which meant that in the first 15 seconds after leaving home I almost fell twice. It was epic. To start, I stepped on a metal drain cover that was pure ice. I think nobody even seen dance move like that on our street before. By some miracle I managed not to fall. However, after making just a few more steps I suddenly ended up on something like an improvised staking rink. Which meant even more exciting dance moves just be able to stay upright. During all that calamity one of my feet ended up in a muddle of half frozen slush. Which was nice. Speak of a great morning.

This same experience happened to pretty much everyone I spoke to today. People at the gym, folks at the co-working place I go to, barista at the coffee shop. Everybody was excitedly talking about how they almost ended up in a hospital or had a narrow escape from being hit by a car. Drivers complained about traffic and shared stories about seeing other cars stuck in a ditch.  And oh so many things were said about city services and their inability to clean the roads. Nothing bonds people more than complaining about the government.

So today was all about the weather. Although, I’ve never seen so many people excitedly sharing their stories and chatting about their day before. Like I said, weather is a great conversation topic.

This post is part of the #100days project, where I try to write a post a day. Today is #day9
