100 days
Today I realized that although I've been doing my #100days project for a while now (18 days to be precise), I haven't really spoken as to what this project actually is and why I'm doing it.
Simply put, #100days project is 100 days of me posting a short post on a random topic on this blog. I've moved to this new platform (https://ghost.org) mostly to make this process more convenient - it has a decent editor and an admin interface, and generally makes creating and publishing posts very easy. My previous platform was a hand-crafted blog using Gatsby. Which is a great tool, but it's fully manual and requires a full site rebuild & redeploy after every post.
Why am I doing this? First, to simply write more. I think writing has a lot of benefits on its own. It provides some organization and strucure to otherwise scattered thoughts and makes my mind a little clearer each time I do it. Writing allows thoughts and ideas to crystallize into something meaningful and take form as a coherent narrative. Second, although I do some writing for work (mostly code and tech documentation), letting my mind free to express itself on a variety of topics is a totally different experience. And third, I want to be better at writing overall. And, as we all know, practice makes perfect.
My goal is to write on different topics. I don't have anything prepared, so every post is written from scratch. I just let my mind wander and arrive at something that would be interesting for me to write on and that could fit into the format. I do have a bunch of ideas for tech-related posts but since I'm making a post every day - those would not be part of this project. They simply take too much time to prepare.
The format of these posts is mostly just me going on about a topic for about 300-400 words. Quick essay-style text. Sometimes there's an illustration, sometimes there's none. There's no constrains other than the time and effort I'm willing to put into it on a given day. There's only one rule - I have to do it every day and keep it consistent!
Hopefully this routine will soon become a habit. Someone said that habits take around 21 days to form. Since I'm on day 18 now - there's just 3 more days to go!
This post is part of the #100days project, where I try to write a post a day. Today is #day18
