Noise
With the rise of the social media the possibility to create a personal brand, be famous, and monitize that fame has become greater than ever. Kids don't want to become astronauts anymore, they want to be a YouTube celebrity. And that's totally understandable, being on YouTube pays much better these days.
And when in comes to content, we're spoilt for choice. There's millions of people on all socia media that try to get your attention and your follow. It's become very hard to find great content because of the sheer amount of noise around. "More followers = more money" paradigm leads to countless grifters that re-post and re-cycle same ideas over and over, steal content, and full your feed with low-quality junk.
So, how do we sift through all that and get to something worthy of out attention? My suggestion is - don't trust the algorithm. Sometimes its suggetions are good, but most often they're not. Focus on the field that interests you, find the person that is really good in that field and see who they follow. People usually form small communities around a topic, and chances are - if you found somebody good - they're surrounded with like-minded people. Word of mouth is also great. Pros usually happily recommend other pros in their field. Also, look for people that have long-form content available. That kind of content shows that they are deeply interested in something and at least put some effort into their work. And watch out for assholes out there! Even if they're an expert in their fields - their bitterness is toxic and poisons everything around them.
And, most importantly - stay clear of junk low-quality content. It steals your valuable attention, and doesn't deserve your time.
